Knitted Burial Bunting

Converted from crochet into knit by Nina Self, Touching Little Lives volunteer. Samples knitted by Lenore English, Michigan Supplies: baby yarn (soft, pastel colors are perfect)

1 yard of 1/4" ribbon Size 8 Knitting Needles Large blunt-tipped darning needle

General Directions

Cast on 34 stitches

BUNTING BODY: Rows 1 & 2 rows: K across. Row 3: K1, *K2tog, YO, Repeat from * to the last stitch, K1. Row 4: K across. Work in garter stitch until piece measures 5" from cast on edge. Repeat rows 3 & 4, once

HOOD: Bind off 5 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows. Work in garter stitch until piece measures 8" from cast on edge. Bind off all stitches.

FINISHING: Line with flannel or flannelette. Fold the top of the hood in half and weave the seam closed. Cut the ribbon in half (2 18" pieces) and weave the first piece of ribbon into the neck casing. Lap the right bottom side over the left by 4-5 stitches and secure by weaving the second piece of ribbon through bottom casing. Snip ribbon ends at angle, tie in bows. Snuggly gather the bottom casing, loosely gather the neck casing. (We prefer these buntings be lined with a flannel liner.) (from http://www.touchinglittlelives.org/knitbunting.html)

Baby stitches

Crocheted Baby Blanket  (pattern Nested Shell stitch)

In this blanket I used 4 skeins of Bernat 5.6 oz yarn, 2 pink 9412, two white.  

If working two strands of yarn together chain 78. And use K crochet hook.


chain 163 stitches if using one strand. And use G size crochet hook.
Or multiples of 6 +1.



Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, * skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next ch, skip 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch *. Repeat from * to * until 3 ch remain, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in last ch. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: 2 dc in the first sc, * 1 sc in 3rd dc of 5 dc group, 5 dc in sc *. Repeat from * to *, end row with 1 sc in 3rd chain of previous row, ch 2 turn.
Repeat above row 2 until you have it as long as you want. I like to make a square for a baby.
Finishing:


Finish option 

·      1. your done!! Weave in ends.
 

·      2. sc all around two times, at corners, sc 5 times in stitch.

·      3.  Try dc all around two times, (or more) Remember dc in corner stitches 5 times (to make your corner turn)


·      4.  Like to add a fancy look? Try crab stitching around, when done, or I have also done a simple picot of, sc in 5 st, *then chain 5 stitches, sc in next 5 st and repeat.*
